Mascherata.
Mascherata.
In a vibrant concert filled with dance-enticing and soul-captivating music by one of the great hitmakers från the renaissance, Romeo & Julia Kören celebrates 30 years as an internationally touring ensemble.
Inspired by carnivals and court festivities of renaissance Italy, Mascherata is a fusion of dancing and singing expanding the traditional concept of concerts into a vivid experience for the eyes as much as for the ears.
Born in Verona 1470, Bartolomeo Tromboncino became one of the most popular lutenists, composers and entertainers of his time. His songs were played at carnivals, weddings and theaters and his patrons, amongst others were Lucretia Borgia and Isabella d’Este, who rivaled to have him in their stall of musicians. Times were a violent and turbulent; Europe was torn apart by religious wars, political oppression and epidemics. And yet, the Arts flourished.
Mascherata is a celebration of music, art, play and life – during the renaissance and in our time. Romeo & Julia Kören embraces the music with love and passion, rips it apart and molds it into their own significant musical expression making songs from the past relevant to listeners of this day.
